No hot water from your boiler? Common reasons why!

As heating devices that are a part of our lives for heating and hot water solution, combi boilers may lose their working function for various reasons. In order to live with your boilers efficiently and safely, it is extremely important to determine the cause of the underlying problem and resolve it as soon as possible.

One of the most common boiler complaints people face is when the boiler does not provide hot water. However, why is a boiler stop transmitting hot water throughout your house? We have addressed all the possible scenarios about the boiler not providing hot water for you!

Common Reasons Why For A Boiler Without Hot Water

If your boiler has stopped providing hot water, there are some checks you can do before calling technical service. Remember that combi boilers may stop working for many reasons, and as a result, the hot water function may no longer work. Sometimes this situation can be corrected with a small touch, and sometimes the problem can be more serious. Therefore, you can start by determining whether the problem is due to the main part in the boiler, the boiler settings, or for a very different reason. To make your maintenance easier, we have mentioned possible scenarios just below.

Problems Based On Pilot Light

Combi boilers owe their effectiveness to the pilot light on. Taking this into account, if the pilot light no longer illuminates its surroundings, then your combi has gone into sleep mode and is not working. This light must be on to produce hot water so that the boilers can provide heat by burning gas or oil. In short, no pilot light means no heat. Just like where there is no sun, there is no life.

Now there are two ways to detect this problem. First of all, those who have an old boiler in their home can check whether the pilot light is on from the unit's frame. If your boiler is modern, an error code will be displayed on the LED/LCD screen. If the problem is really with the pilot light, take the manual and follow the steps to turn on the pilot light. For cases where there is no user manual, you can query "model + how to turn on pilot light".

If you have followed all these steps and still do not have a working pilot light, it may be time to call the service for technical support. However, there is nothing to worry about. Such situations will usually be corrected with a simple repair, and your combi will return to its former effectiveness.

Check Gas And Electrical Aspects

Gas and electricity are required at the same time in order for the boiler to operate smoothly. For this reason, you need to make sure that both are there for the boiler. In the first case, make sure if there is an electrical problem. In cases where there is no electricity provided to the combi, nothing appears on the screen, just like any electronic device. Any error code/normal operation settings on the screen won't be displayed on your unit's screen.

In such a case, two possible reasons may put an obstacle in front of the boiler from providing hot water:

Since such situations are complicated (unless you are an engineer), you should definitely seek service assistance.

Suppose it is about whether the boiler acquires the required gas. First of all, if there is a gas device other than the combi boiler, try to run it. It would also make sense to check the gas valves for the boiler. Even though you have done all the checks, and there is still a problem, there may be roadwork outside, or the problem may be more serious than you think. Therefore, it would be the most logical move to call the technical service again.

Check Water Pressure

Combi boilers use the pressure system to work effectively and to transmit the water to the required rooms. The ideal level for this pressure system is between 1 and 2 bar. If the pressure value of your combi drops below 1, it means the pressure is low. In these cases, you need to add water to your boiler to increase the pressure.

Conversely, when the pressure level rises above 2.5, the pressure is high. If the pressure level exceeds the normal level, what you need to do is to reduce the pressure by taking water from the boiler.

In both cases, the boiler will not function and will stop providing hot water. If not hot water from the boiler is related to the pressure level, the problem will be fixed after the adjustments.

Another method you can do if it is still not fixed despite all this is to reset the combi boiler. You should seek professional support if the boiler still does not provide hot water despite resetting and adjusting the water pressure.

Check The Thermostat Settings

When your thermostat is set to the wrong setting by mistake, you may experience problems with hot water. An incorrectly adjusted thermostat may not heat the water sufficiently and may not heat the water at all. Fortunately, modern boilers are quite useful in this regard. Check the thermostat, and if there's something you don't like about your radiators or the hot water temperature, it allows you to readjust the heat via a dial easily.

Turn the thermostat at a high level for a short while until you are sure hot water is coming. Once you have access to hot water, set the thermostat back to its normal level. However, if that doesn't work and you aren't still provided hot water, it's time to seek professional help to avoid further damage to the device.

Pipes Might Have Got Frozen

The temperature drops, the floor is covered with frost and ice, and the condensate pipe begins to freeze. Frozen pipes are an unfortunate incident that many people on cold UK days experience, which requires a quick fix.

When this happens, the boiler system will not work for your safety, as the gas flow cannot be provided because the pipe is frozen. To melt the ice and start the boiler again, you must gradually heat the frozen pipe through hotter water. The pipe cleared of ice will make the unit operational again. But don't forget to turn the boiler on and off again after the process is done!

Combi boiler errors that prevent the flow of hot water mentioned above are unpleasant scenarios that can happen to anyone. One way or another, it negatively affects the quality of life as it blocks the flow of hot water and should be resolved as soon as possible. Since some errors may herald a more serious situation related to your boiler, the source of the problem should be identified immediately, and action should be taken.
